Our Story
Magill Village Vet
Located in the historic Magill Police Station building at 607 Magill Road, Magill, we have worked hard to create a veterinary clinic that is friendly, calm and stress-free.
St Bernard’s Road Veterinary Clinic has been providing care to families in Magill and the surrounding area for over 20 years, and it is no great surprise that we have grown out of the St Bernard’s Road site. We have been looking for a new home for the clinic since 2016, and as they say ‘good things come to those who wait’.
The building, which was originally the Magill Police Station, came on the market in July 2021 during one of our COVID ‘shutdowns’. We immediately fell in love with this beautiful red brick building dating from 1909, and of course the location in the centre of the revitalised Magill Village precinct seemed ideal.
Our vision for 607 Magill Road was to respect and honour the heritage of the police station (and the adjacent police cells) while creating a modern and beautiful veterinary clinic for our pets and their families.
We worked with Mark Hafen from ‘smarter is better’ to create a floor plan which utilised the old space and created a new space to compliment the old. Mark is based in Colorado and has spent a lifetime designing veterinary clinics, primarily in USA and Canada, but also internationally.
Mark encouraged us to explore concepts for our clinic design which are innovative, fresh and unique. At the centre of all of our discussions was ensuring our space worked for our patients, our families and our team.
‘State Of The Art’ vs ‘State Of The Heart’
There is no point in having a clinic full of expensive gadgets if we don’t look after the emotional needs of our patients as they walk in the front door. We have some fabulous ideas and concepts that we are excited about implementing at Magill Village Vet.
We have worked with local project managers and builders to turn Mark’s floor plan into a 3D reality, delivering a fabulous veterinary clinic to the Magill community.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family.
Custom Designed for Cats & Dogs
With separate waiting areas, consulting rooms and hospital wards for cats and dogs, we have created a physical space which we think aligns with the needs of our patients and their families.
Our aim is to provide a relaxed experience in a calm environment because we believe that by minimising your stress, and your pet’s stress when they visit, we will achieve better health outcomes for your family.
Cat World
If you go through the purple arch you will find yourself in Cat World – a place which is for the exclusive use of our feline patients (and maybe the occasional bird, rabbit or guinea pig).
There are 3 consulting rooms and a waiting area which will allow us to keep our felines well away from our canines – not that we don’t love dogs, but they do tend to upset the cats.
There is also a dedicated cat ward, and area for minor procedures, once again completely separate from the main clinic area. For our felines who need to be transferred into the main surgery or dental area, they can be transported once under anaesthesia so they wont be aware of the dogs that may be in the clinic.
Cat World has revolutionary WellKennels Glass Enclosures. Underfloor heating and toughened glass instead of stainless steel creates a warm and quiet environment to improve and speed recovery, aided by specially designed calming graphics. Featuring three light modes, designed to reduce stress and improve efficiency, the lighting system offers greater visibility for patient assessments, undisrupted monitoring to support recovery, and high vision to clean to clinical hygiene standards.
The cat enclosures exceed the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) standards.
Dog World
We don’t want you to think that it is all about cats – if you go through the green arch you will find yourself in Dog World – a place which has been designed for our canine patients.
There are 4 consulting rooms in Dog World, as well as an outdoor consulting room for our canines who don’t enjoy coming inside to see us.
Dog World is linked to our main clinic area, which includes the dental suite, x-ray room, ultrasound room, isolation ward and surgical suite.
There are also WellKennel Glass Enclosures in the main hospital – so the dogs don’t miss out. You can see our revolutionary enclosures through the window beside the reception desk – have a look next time you visit Magill Village Vet.
